It’s for the best
Much, not all but much, of the time, the cause of anxiety is in the brain. Certain thought pathways get ingrained and can become very stubborn. Too much thinking! We can’t stop the problem with more thinking.
It’s great that so many more people are taking advantage of therapy as a way to uncover more about themselves. However, knowing the reason for your problem does not actually solve it! We need tools! You need to address the emotional parts of your brain, not the logical, higher order thinking parts. The emotional parts need very simple, comforting instructions.
All we really need is to trust ourselves and the people closest to us, that things are going to be ok. The simple phrases help reassure us that others have been though it before and we too will get through it. They are statements of truth about how life works, often delivered in a nonchalant way, so we can step down a little bit and stop beating ourselves up about not being able to “overcome” these “problems”!!
A life that feels good is a life that is lived - and the more quickly you can get your brain off of this repetitive “need to solve problem” track and back to experiencing life, the more settled and satisfied you will be.
