This place is like an old love story

Dark streets, traffic, light from the storefront signs, secrets, magic

Places where I was forbidden to go

Here I see all my pain but it doesn’t hurt anymore

It’s like here is where I finally feel acceptable without having

 to prove anything to anyone.

This place is serenading me

The greatest gift I could ever receive

Is that here everything is just fine

My heart pours our love for this place

I never knew was in me

It surprises me yet it doesn’t, all at the same time.

and you ain’t seen 

nothin yet

all you want

is grass at your feet

and not the greasy  muddy black

of the street

Once a soldier

though he didn’t die

Just made him feel

like he couldn’t cry

But told a daughter

’Bout the El Paso sky

Though he himself couldn’t get out

There might be hope

For the next generation

And the feeling of that feeling

Teeming in the light
